Former NBA great Earvin “Magic” Johnson retired in 1991, shortly after he announced having HIV. Now he has fired back at a pair of Minneapolis talk show radio hosts who have accused him of faking his HIV status. During a live broadcast on a conservative radio station, host Chris Baker asked fellow broadcaster Langdon Perry: “You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?” Perry responded, “I’m convinced that Magic faked AIDS.” The context for the comments are not clear, but Magic issued a statement saying: “Millions are dying from HIV/AIDS, and the fact that they would make jokes about my status is unbelievable.”
