Are you woman of worth? Cosmetic giant L’Oréal Paris thinks you are. L’Oréal’s infamous slogan “Because I’m Worth It” was coined over 30 years ago to celebrate a woman’s worth and build her self-esteem.  “In 1997, as an extension of this sentiment, L’Oréal Paris proudly partnered with The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) to raise money and awareness in the fight against ovarian cancer and established Women Of Worth (WOW) – a grassroots program and award that honors women who serve others in their communities,” confirms WOW in an official press statement.

A WOW woman volunteers, achieves, and is making a difference in her community. This year 10 extraordinary women from across the country were selected as honorees for their outstanding volunteer achievements and positive influence on their community. The winner announced this month was Cindy Kerr from Wayne, Pennsylvania for her outstanding commitment to community achievement with her work for ConKerr Cancer – A Case for Smiles. Out of the 10 women nominated, two very exceptional African-American women were selected, Andrea Ivory and Areva Martin and salutes them. Andrea and Areva embody the essence of a worthy woman making a difference in her community and world around her.

Brave and beautiful, Areva Martin, directs and leads Special Needs Network (SNN), a voice and advocacy organization for South Central Los Angeles’ Califorina special needs community.

A woman who embraces life and health, Andrea Ivory, is a breast cancer survivor, who founded The Florida Breast Health Initiative (FBHI), bringing mammography resources to those in need directly to their neighborhoods.
