Interior design maven and host of HGTV’s “Myles of Style,” Kim Myles, will answer a question submitted from an ESSENCE.com reader every day. Kim believes that interior design should offer a lifestyle that’s chic, vibrant and attainable for every homeowner or renter. “My goal is to offer simple solutions that help the average person achieve the look that they want without going into debt. There is absolutely no reason for great design to be overly expensive or exclusive,” she declares. Today’s topic: Painting My Walls Dear Kim, I need your help. I’m getting ready to purchase furniture for my family room and the colors that I’m wanting to work with are Chocolate and Tiffany Blue (a little darker). I found two sofas: one is like a silver which would bring out the blue and chocolate in accessories, and the other is blue with chocolate in it. The problem is I do not know what color to paint my walls. Should I go dark for the family room? KIM MYLES: It really depends on what mood you want the room to have. By going with chocolate walls you’ll get a room that feels rich, cozy and luxurious–but also a bit dark. Blue is a color that recedes from the eye giving the appearance of space, so it’s a great option if you want the room to feel bigger and brighter. Read more:
