The songstress, who hasn’t seen or spoken to her dad in over 20 years, wants to put an end to their distanced relationship and celebrate the holidays as a family.

“It’s really important just to forgive my father,” Kelly said in a recent taping of the show “X Factor” where she serves as a mentor. “I want to meet him this Christmas, because now is the time, because tomorrow’s not promised to us.”
As an “X Factor” advisor, Kelly was taped comforting one of the contestants, Misha B, who was abandoned by her mom as a baby. Relating to Misha’s story, Kelly stressed the importance of finding peace through forgiveness.

“I think it’s important to forgive people and we move on, we have to,” said Kelly. “The pain is there, of course it will be there, and it’s important to know that forgiveness is the first step towards healing it all.”
