Judge Rules Army Negligence in Katrina Flood

A federal judge ruled that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' negligence led to some of the major flooding that followed Hurricane Katrina and paralyzed the city of New Orleans. U.S. District Judge Stanwood Duval's ruling referred specifically to the city's Lower Ninth Ward and St. Bernard Parish. The corps was not held responsible for the flooding in eastern New Orleans. The five residents who brought claims against the Army Corps. received roughly $170,000 each in the judgement. the courts expect thousands of others to file claims.
