Details are emerging about the night before Kansas City Chiefs football star Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and turned the gun on himself over the weekend. According to the New York Post, Belcher spent the night with another woman.
Belcher reportedly had dinner with Brittni Glass, while his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, attended a Trey Songz concert. The pair had dinner and drinks at a local tavern before returning to Glass’ home. However, Belcher spent several hours asleep outside in his Bentley before being awakened by police. At 2:30 a.m. Belcher went inside and remained there until 6:45 a.m. Glass confirmed that she and Belcher were not in a relationship, but declined to give further details about where he slept. Witnesses say Belcher was a regular at Glass’ home.
Upon returning home, Belcher engaged in an argument with Perkins. Belcher’s mom reportedly heard her son say, “You can’t talk to me like that!” Then Belcher pulled a gun on his girlfriend and shot her eight times. He then leaned over her body, apologized and kissed her on her forehead, according to Belcher’s mother.
Belcher then apologized to his mother, who was helping taking care of the couple’s three-month-old daughter, and fled his home where he would arrive to the practice facility before his coaches and take his own life using a different gun.
According to sources, the couple had a history of troubles and argued over their relationship and financial issues.
It’s now known that Belcher was violent in a past relationship. He reportedly punched his fist through a window while “upset with a girl” when he attended the University of Maine in 2006.
The Perkins family released a statement saying, “Our wish is for Kasi to be remembered for the love she shared with us all. Kasi will be truly missed.”
Funeral arrangements for Perkins and Belcher have not been announced.
