Awkward Black Girl is coming to network TV! Or… at least something like it.
Deadline is reporting that HBO has ordered a pilot for Issa Rae‘s comedy series, “Insecure,” written by and starring the self-proclaimed “awkward” Rae. The pilot will come two years after Rae and her co-executive producer Larry Wilmore began working with the network in 2013.
Similar to Rae’s hit web series, The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, the series will feature the main character’s uncomfortable situations as she navigates life as a Black woman.
Rae’s web series has attracted an impressive 20 million viewers and 200,000 YouTube subscribers. She nabbed a Shorty Award for Best Web Series in 2012, and she has also landed on lists like Glamour magazine’s “35 Under 35,” Forbes’ “30 Under 30” and Rolling Stone’s “23 Funniest People in America.” Rae is also preparing for the release of her book of essays, which hits shelves next week.
We are still eagerly waiting on a premiere date.
