Illinois just became the third state to eliminate the “tampon tax,” following New York and Connecticut.

According to New York Daily News, Gov. Bruce Rauner signed a law Friday eliminating sales tax on feminine hygiene products. The law, which repeals taxes on tampons and menstrual pads, goes into effect January 1, 2017.

“This is just the start of a conversation about the unfair ‘pink taxes’ women face as they buy products priced higher than similar ones marketed to men or, in this case, as they have to spend on products that men don’t,” said Melinda Bush, the Illinois Senate sponsor in a statement.
