ESSENCE.com visited Gibson’s Fifth Avenue salon in NYC to watch him work his holiday magic on former “America’s Next Top Model” finalist Eugena Washington.
Gibson prepped Eugena’s tresses with his Tame It Shine Lotion ($31, sephora.com) to combat frizz and add shine. We love this product because it gives locks a silky smooth texture.
“It is all about the haircut. Whether your hair is weaved, short or natural, it’s all about making a statement this season. It’s all about the cut,” says Gibson.
According to Gibson, one of the biggest Black hair myths is that the scalp should be oily or greasy. “Hair must be able to move!" he said.
Gibson applied his Goodnite Replenish Hair Repair Serum to Eugena’s distressed locks. “If you wear a weave, it’s great for preventing or repairing hairline breakage,” says Gibson.
Gibson used a curling iron throughout the entire lower section of Eugena’s hair to create loose curls; then, he pulled apart the hair with his fingers for a soft, natural look.
Go for glam this holiday season, insists Gibson, who created a side part for a sophisticated finish for Eugena’s curly, wavy hair.

Using a 1 1/2 inch curling iron, Gibson curled the top sections of Eugena’s hair from the temple up. For the lower section, he used a 1-inch iron. The different-sized curls keep the body of your mane looking natural.
Gibson pinned Eugena’s long locks up for an illusion of a haute new holiday do.
