US Attorney Loretta Lynch has signed an agreement to make Harriet Tubman’s former Auburn, New York home a national historical park.
Land belonging to Harriet Tubman Home Inc. will be transferred to the National Park Service and the 36-acre property will be known as the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park.

Tubman moved to Auburn in 1859 after fleeing Maryland and spending years rescuing slaves. In 1896, she purchased 25 acres next to the property and used it to open a home for elderly African-Americans, the Harriet Tubman Home for the Aged.
The park will included Tubman’s home, the Home for the Ages, and the nearby Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church.
