Have you noticed photos of $20 bills with Harriet Tubman’s name written out in marker making their rounds of social media?
They are the result of a call to action by actor Josh Malina after Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin indicated that he could abandon plans to replace President Andrew Jackson on the front of the $20 bill with Tubman.
The treasury department announced last April that Tubman had been selected to front the bill.
“It’s not something that I’m focused on at the moment,” Mnuchin told CNBC when asked about the planned change. “The issues of why we change it will be primarily related to what we need to do for security purposes.”
Malina, who currently plays Attorney General David Rosen on ABC’s “Scandal,” tweeted out to his followers Thursday that they should write Tubman’s name on $20 bills.
Jackson is the president that Donald Trump most identifies with, so it is no surprise that Mnuchin may not follow through with the planned redesign. But it seems people are taking Malina’s call to action seriously.
