Berry’s career is already legendary and she’s still one of the most sought-after actresses in Hollywood. She got her start on the beauty pageant circuit, giving the country’s most beautiful women some serious competition by taking home the first runner up crown in the 1986 Miss USA pageant and sixth place in the Miss World Pageant.
Following that up with modeling gigs, Berry got her lucky break in 1991 when she landed a small role in Spike Lee’s hit Jungle Fever. Starring roles in smash hits like Boomerang, The Flinstones, Bulworth and X-Men soon followed and made her a silver screen staple.
Berry’s awards cabinet is filled with some of the most sought after trophies in the industry. She received an NAACP Image Award, Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG award for her spot-on starring portrayal in Introducing Dorothy Dandridge, and in 2001 became the first and only African-American woman to take home a Best Actress Oscar at the Academy Awards for her performance in Monster’s Ball.
The Revlon spokeswoman has taken her talents beyond the screen and worked behind the camera on many of her films. In addition to her work in Hollywood, Berry is devoted to her work with many non-profit organizations. Her main focus is to spread domestic violence awareness, a cause that is very personal to her.
When this mother of one is not filming, you can find her spending quality time on California beaches with her beautiful daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry, 4. However, things haven’t been so smooth for Berry as of late. A part from taking a nasty spill on the set of her new movie The Hive, Berry’s been back and forth in family court. She and her ex, Gabriel Aubry, have been duking it out over custody of Nahla. Berry reportedly wants to move to Paris with current fiancé Olivier Martinez. Berry and Aubry have yet to reach a mutual custody agreement.
Join us in wishing Halle Berry a very happy birthday!
