Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas has come a long way. Originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, the 16-year-old left home at 14 to begin elite gymnastics training in Des Moines. It wouldn’t be long before the girl dubbed “The Flying Squirrel” would capture America’s attention with her gravity defying uneven bar routines and peppy floor exercises.
