By · Updated October 29, 2020

Making Beverly Hills look even more beautiful with her darling accessory boutique Tres Jolie, owner Glenda Lugay offers some accessory tips for women wondering how to get an innovative look. Glenda has had pieces from her store featured in ESSENCE, Lucky and “Sex and the City The Movie,” to name a few. Look pretty and posh with Glenda’s hand-picked jewelry tips.

ESSENCE.COM: What 5 accessories should every women own and why?

Glenda Lugay:

  • 1. Hoops are something you shouldn’t leave home without when you are going out of town.
  • 2. A small Garnett necklace goes with anything, from a summer dress to an evening dinner dress, not to mention it looks good with any color.
  • 3. Aquamarine droplets are great when you’re on the go.
  • 4. Bangles, who can say more?!
  • 5. A lariat necklace in a light citrine or smoky quarts.

ESSENCE.COM: What African-American celebrities frequent the Tres Jolie boutique?

Glenda: Halle Barry, Janet Jackson, the girls from Destiny’s Child, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Alicia keys, Rihanna, Gabriel Union, Angela Bassett, Siasha Jordan, Tamera Mowry, TLC, Queen Latifah, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Brandy.

ESSENCE: What are your must-have accessories rules every fashionista should follow?

Glenda: Well I must say that accessorizing is kind of like a meal. First begin with the starters, shoes. Everyone should have the classic cork wedged heel and classic patent leather thick heeled pump. The main dish would have to be a good handbag, durable light, with a classic delicacy yet still a feminine feel. The bag is a medium sized hand clutch. Finally, the crème de la crème of desserts the jewelry, rings, and more cocktail rings different shapes size very geometric, hair pieces from jeweled barrettes to beaded chopsticks.

ESSENCE: What celebrities, in your opinion, should win the title “Best Accessorized Women of the Year” and why?

Glenda: The best accessorized woman I think this year is hands down, Thandie Newton for her elegant taste. She is a very classy woman, but from the past century I think Dorothy Dandridge, bless her soul.

ESSENCE.COM: What accessories should we look forward to being in style in 2009?

Glenda: Butterflies, bows and funny enough headbands. You don’t want to spend too much, less is more and a lot of layers, from necklaces to bangles. Be specific on what you want when you go accessory shopping, but also try something daring.

“American Idol” finalist Syesha Mercado wears designer Nina Nguyen carried at the Tres Jolie boutique. Get her star style in Nina Nguyen dangly earrings for only $100, tresjolie.us. The earrings pictured are 18k vermeil and semi precious rondelles on 14k gold fill chain.

It’s no wonder that Ciara’s middle name is Princess because she certainly looks like one wearing accessories from KT Design.
