George Zimmerman has asked Judge Jessica J. Recksiedler to step down from the case because of a potential conflict of interest, reports NBC.

Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, formally filed a request on Monday to have Recksiedler “disqualified” from the case. Recksiedler’s husband works with attorney Mark NeJame, who works for CNN as an analyst on the case.

“What I don’t want to happen is to wait a month or two then what we find out is a potential conflict is an actual conflict,” said O’Mara.

The Grio is reporting that NeJame was first approached to represent Zimmerman, but declined. NeJame referred Zimmerman to O’Mara when his attorneys dropped him.

In other Trayvon Martin news, Zimmerman may apologize to Trayvon Martin’s family. O’Mara told reporters, “What I want happen is for that conversation to occur directly to the family rather than… in the media through me.”
