Beauty trends worn at the Olympic Games have certainly evolved in recent years. Sadly, we can’t say the same for FOX News critics and their out-of-touch commentary.
Last week, Sports Court host Tamara Holder invited Bo Dietl and Mark Simone to talk about the makeup looks worn by the athletes competing in Rio. After all, who better to discuss the motives behind Olympians wearing makeup than two middle-aged men with zero beauty knowledge? [insert sarcasm here.]
The five minute clip, which has since gone viral, made it painfully clear that these men are unfit to weigh in on this discussion. At one point Holder asked her guests whether women should feel empowered by their makeup.
“The whole point of the Olympics, the whole reason for this training, for this work to get there, is product endorsements,” Simone said.
“I think when you see an athlete, why should I have to look at some chick’s zits?” Dietl (a former NYPD detective) added. “Why not put a little blush on her lips? I like to see a person who wins that gold medal go up there and look beautiful.”
There was also talk of Michael Phelps possibly resembling a “white rat.” We’re not making this stuff up.
First of all, Dietl, blush doesn’t go on the lips. Second, the relationship between a person and her makeup habits is a personal and subjective one. There is no right or wrong way to adorn your face each day—even if you’re a public figure. Whether it be bare, beat or something in between, the “rules” are nonexistent.
Maybe next time, Holder should seek the expertise of actual experts next time she wants to talk makeup.
