Rural health worker Dr. Regina M. Benjamin, urban farmer Will Allen, and Nigerian-born novelist Chimamanda Adichie are among the 25 recipients of this year’s $500,000, “no-strings attached” MacArthur Foundation fellowship awards. The prize will be dispersed over the next five years and is intended to help selected individuals advance their work. The “genius winners” range in age from 30 to 76 and this year features four Black recipients. “The MacArthur Fellows Program celebrates extraordinarily creative individuals who inspire new heights in human achievement,” said MacArthur president Jonathan Fanton. Each fellow received a surprise phone call from the foundation delivering the unexpected happy news.
