You go, girls!
Black girl magic is going to Rio next month, courtesy of two exceptional swimmers.
Atlanta Black Star reports that on Friday, Stanford students Simone Manuel, 19, and Lia Neal, 21, completed the Olympic trials and advanced on to compete in next month’s 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. This is the first time in history that two Black swimmers will be representing the United States in the Olympics at the same time.
The duo will be competing on the 4×100 freestyle team.
“I was pretty nervous for most of my races,” Manuel told NBC last week. “Just making the team in itself is a great accomplishment. Just getting to Rio, all the nerves will be gone, and I think I’ll be able to swim a little bit faster.”
We’ll be cheering for you, ladies!
