Happy—or not so happy—Equal Pay Day.

Today marks the date in which a woman’s wages from 2014 and this year equals what a man earned last year. In other words, a woman has to work one year, four months and some change to earn what a man was paid in 365 days. It really illuminates the disparity, huh?

“At a time when women’s wages are essential to families and our economy, this gap is appalling and defies common sense,” said Debra Ness, the president of the National Partnership for Women and Families, in a statement. “It is past time for Congress to do something about it.”

One possible solution would be for companies to increase transparency among its workers salaries. Sure, what you earn wouldn’t be for your eyes only, but it would be a way to ensure that women of all races are earning what they are rightfully entitled to.

Do you think that this would be an effective method to combat the gender wage gap? Or would you prefer that your income remains 150 percent private? Take our poll and let us know how you think the government can end this shameful disparity.
