Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis is making headlines for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Davis—who had been held in contempt of court—emerged from a local jail on Tuesday in front of a supportive crowd. “I just want to give God the glory,” she said. “His people have rallied, and you are a strong people,” reports CNN.
Across the country, flight attendant Cheree Stanley has been suspended from her job for not wanting to serve alcohol; something that is against her Muslim beliefs. Stanley, who had an agreement with employers regarding this religious clause, was reported by a disgruntled co-worker who said she “wasn’t fulfilling her duties.” Stanley says she shouldn’t have to chose “between properly practicing my religion and earning a living.”
It’s clear that staying true to firm religious standards can have various outcomes when it comes to your profession.
