Each October, as we celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we must remember the month is about more than pink ribbons. Part of being aware is about knowing your own body.
Conducting a self-breast exam is a useful way to find irregularities and detect breast cancer early on. According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, “40 percent of diagnosed breast cancers are detected by women who feel a lump, so establishing a regular self-exam is very important.” There are multiple ways to perform an examination. Breasts can be checked in the shower, in front of the mirror, or even while lying in bed.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. says breast exams should be conducted once a month. How often do you examine your breast? Do you shy away from it or are you on constant alert? Take our poll and let us know.
