ESSENCE Poll: Has Holiday Shopping Gone Too Far?

Retailers are opening on Thanksgiving night for early Black Friday sales. Have they gone too far?
ESSENCE Poll: Has Holiday Shopping Gone Too Far?

Shoppers in search of deep discounts this Black Friday have an extra four hours to get started now that big box retailers are opening at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving night. Traditionally, stores would open for Black Friday sales at midnight on Thursday, but now, retailers like Target, Sears, Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Toys R Us are luring shoppers away from family dinner with unbeatable deals. Though some shoppers will see it as a bonus, employees like Casey St. Clair will have to leave family to go to work. St. Clair has responded by starting an online petition asking Target to not open on Thanksgiving night. So far the petition has more than 350,000 signatures.

Thanksgiving is meant to be a day spent reconnecting with family and friends. Do you think retailers have gone too far? Will you be out shopping on Thanksgiving night? Take our poll and tell us in the comments below:
