The death of Sandra Bland in police custody has us all in shock, especially now that there’s dashcam footage of her encounter with Texas State Trooper Brian Encinia.

Bland’s case gained national attention when her body was found hanging in a Waller County, Texas jail three days after being arrested and booked following a routine traffic stop. Authorities maintain that she committed suicide. Bland’s family is currently calling for an independent autopsy to find out what really happened to her.

With a growing list of Black women who have died after encounters with the police—including, but certainly not limited to, Sandra Bland, Rekia Boyd, Yvette Smith and Miriam Carey—are you more conscious of your actions when dealing with police officers?

Take our poll and share your stories of encounters with the police below.
