Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. will resign after six years of serving at the Justice Department, NPR reports.
Holder, the 82nd attorney general, will announce his plans to step down from the administration during a press conference at the White House this afternoon. Holder is the nation’s first Black attorney general, and the fourth-longest serving. According to NPR, he and President Obama have discussed his exit from the Department of Justice several times and finalized it in a meeting over Labor Day weekend.
Justice Department officials say Holder will wait until his successor is confirmed to make his official departure.
