The Garner/Snipes family wants to thank you all for your prayers and support. At this moment there are no updates on Ericas condition. They ask that you take this holiday to enjoy your loved ones and for self care. More updates will come as they are available.

Reverend Al Sharpton later took to social media on Monday morning to share that he’d visited Erica in the hospital and urged the public to send prayers her way.

The 27-year-old became a public figure in July 2014, after the death of her 43-year-old father Eric Garner, who lost his life after being placed in a fatal chokehold by NYPD officers who approached him while he was allegedly selling cigarettes outside of a convenient store in Staten Island. Garner was a father of 6 whose senseless death was captured on a video, although the officers responsible for his death were ultimately acquitted.

Eric Garner’s death was one of many in 2016 that further ignited the Black Lives Matter movement and called for an end to police brutality in communities of color.
