Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other city officials are hoping school superintendent David L. Brewer, 62, steps down from his $300,000-a-year job, reports the Los Angeles Times. The group is said to be disappointed by Brewer’s leadership skills and the rate of change for the second-largest school system in the country.

“Running L.A. Unified is harder than running the United States,” said attorney Connie Rice, referring to the city’s school system. Rice manages the school’s bond spending. The L.A. school board was scheduled to discuss Brewer’s future with the system and the option of buying out his contract.
