A toast to love can do your relationship some good according to a recent study on alcohol consumption and relationship health in couples. Shocker: The results of the study show that if a couple drinks alcohol together than they are most likely to stay together.
According to the study, published in The Journals of Gerontology Series B: Psychological Series, couples who drink alcohol together reported a less negative relationship quality over time, and the results were “significantly greater among wives.”
“Wives who reported drinking alcohol reported decreased negative marital quality over time when husbands also reported drinking and increased negative marital quality over time when husbands reported not drinking,” a summary of the results says.

Researchers surveyed 4,864 married people in 2,767 couples who have been together for an average of 33 years. Based on the results if both partners participated in drinking or if both partners abstained from alcohol over the age of 50 then they were more likely to have a satisfying marriage. If one partner drank and the other one did not than it was more likely the marriage was unhappy.
Couples are known to have better martial quality when they do leisure activities, so drinking is another thing to add on your list to do with your significant other.
