Many people are comparing Espy Campbell’s political strategy to that of President Obama’s. She bills herself as someone who can bring change to the Latin American country and has specifically targeted the younger population through the Internet, according to the Campbell isn’t shy about her admiration of President Obama, having attended the Democratic National Convention last year and admits to closely following his campaign. But she says that’s where the comparisons end. Although she’s currently trailing in the polls, Campbell would become the first president in Latin America to self-identify as Black while only two percent of Costa Rica’s population does the same. Her party’s primary is on May 31.—WLW
