Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice played piano for the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin during a performance at the Mann Center for Performing Arts in Philadelphia. The “Diva and the Diplomat” (as “Good Morning America” affectionately referred to them) teamed up for a three-hour benefit concert for inner-city youth programs and educational initiatives in Philadelphia and Detroit… Rice, a classically trained pianist, performed a selection from Mozart’s Piano Concerto and later accompanied the Queen of Soul for a rendition of “I Say a Little Prayer.” The two met at a White House event where Rice asked Franklin if she would perform with her. “We decided to give it a try,” Franklin told the Associated Press. “So here we are, in the city of Brotherly — and Sisterly — Love.” Franklin says she was surprised by Rice. “She really does play.”
