Compton Mayor Aja Brown announced Thursday that she was going to  withdraw her bid for congress because she was pregnant with her first child.

“I am excited and blessed to announce that my husband of fourteen years and I are expecting our first child,” she said in a statement.

“To date one of my highest honors has been dedicating my life to serving my community. However, at this point in my life, my family commitments supersede my ability to expand my level of service.”

Her announcement comes only a week after Stacey Dash also announced she would be dropping out of the race.

Brown, once the youngest mayor of Compton, announced last month that she would be running to represent California’s 44th Congressional District.

She would have been running against Dash and incumbent Rep. Nanette Barragán in the largely Democratic district.

Brown became the youngest mayor of Compton in 2013. She began her second term as mayor last year.
