Thousands of minorities are settling in Charles County, Maryland, 30 miles outside of Washington, D.C., according to USAToday.com. Many are attracted by the vastly lower incidents of crime, good schools, and affordable homes. In 2000, two-thirds of county residents were White but by 2008, the White population has dropped to half and fewer that 45 percent are still living there under the age of 20, according to census data. The fastest growing group in the area are African-Americans professionals, many coming from Prince George’s County.-WLW
