Coffee Talk: VH1 to Air Reality Show On Black Greek Life

Plus: Kevin Hart responds to Sony execs' emails, Cedric the Entertainer reunites with Steve Harvey, and more!
Coffee Talk: VH1 to Air Reality Show On Black Greek Life
By Jolie A. Doggett · Updated October 27, 2020

Happy Friday! Enjoy these hot topics as you head into your weekend.

With their new reality show Sorority Sisters, VH1 is offering a look inside Black Greek life. The show will follow nine women from four different historically Black sororities as they attempt to manage their personal lives and juggle their responsibilities to their respective organizations. “These ladies have a lot at stake—their aspirations, reputations, friendships, families—and the legacies of their sororities,” VH1 said in a press release. When a first look at the show leaked earlier this year, it sparked outrage from some sorority members that resulted in online petitions to get the show shut down. Early critics fear the show will show the women of these organizations in a demeaning and improper light. The series premiere airs December 15. Do you plan to watch? [VH1]

Cedric the Entertainer and Steve Harvey are reuniting and it feels so good! The two “kings of comedy” and former stars of popular sitcom, The Steve Harvey Show, will get back together again on Steve Harvey’s daily talk show on December 12. Cedric will share details about his latest film and TV projects, charity foundation in St. Louis, MO, and of course, talk about ‘the good ol’ days’ with Steve.

Former President George H. W. Bush has given the new biopic Selma two thumbs up. He and his wife attended a screening of the film on Wednesday and were greatly impacted by the retelling of the 1965 voting rights marches in Alabama. “Selma magnificently recreates the strong emotions felt across our nation, vividly taking us back to when Martin Luther King, Jr. led the civil rights movement,” Bush said in a statement. “Together, the filmmakers and cast not only captured the pain and conflict of that challenging time, but also how far we have come as a society.” [The Hollywood Reporter]

In leaked emails from Sony Pictures, two studio executives called comedian Kevin Hart “a whore” for asking to be paid to promote his film on social media. After learning of their inappropriate comments, Hart had this to say: “I worked very hard to get where I am today. I look at myself as a brand and because of that I will never allow myself to be taken advantage of,” Hart wrote on Instagram. “I protect my brand which is why I’m able to brush this ignorance off of my shoulder and continue to move forward.” [Instagram]

Blair Underwood is joining the cast of ABC’s hit super hero show, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Underwood will have a recurring role as Dr. Andrew Garner, the ex-husband of May, played by Mig-Na Wen. [The Hollywood Reporter]

In case you missed it, Nicki Minaj and Beyoncé have collaborated for a second time on Nicki’s upcoming album, The Pinkprint. Take a listen to “Feelin’ Myself” and let us know what you think:
