Coffee Talk: Timbaland Slams Lifetime's Aaliyah Biopic

Coffee Talk: Timbaland Slams Lifetime’s Aaliyah Biopic
By Jolie A. Doggett · Updated October 27, 2020

Here’s what we’re talking about this morning:

Timbaland is not happy with Lifetime’s biopic Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. The producer posted several memes and videos on his Instagram page this weekend, hoping the Lifetime execs would “feel his wrath.” “A lot of people keep asking me if I’m watching that bullsh-t. No way. Not Timbo,” he said in one video. The 42-year-old was a close friend and collaborater with the late singer, and strongly criticized the casting of the film on his social media pages. One of America’s favorite twins sometimes wishes she were born as an individual. Tamera Mowry-Housley, who rose to fame with her twin sister Tia Mowry-Hardick on Sister,Sister, says that the public often sees her and her sibling as a matching set despite their different personalities. “Sometimes you just want to be you own person, you know?” she said in a preview of her talk show, The Real. “People see you as two people and I had to fight for a really, really long time, along with my sister, to tell people that, ‘You know, we’re individuals.” [Hello Beautiful]

Get ready for more Mo’ne! The Little League pitcher’s first memoir, Mo’ne Davis: Remember My Name will be released by Harper Collins Children’s Books next March. Davis made history after becoming the first female pitcher to pitch a shutout at the Little League World Series. She was then featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated at just 13 years old. “I’m just a girl that likes to play sports and I’m excited to share my story with everyone,” she said in a statement through Harper Collins. “I hope it encourages people to take a chance and play the sports they want to play and not just the ones people expect them to play.” [Yahoo! Real Housewives of Atlanta star Apollo Nida finally admitted that he was lying about Kenya Moore wanting to have sex with him. Last year, Nida alleged that Moore wanted to have sex with him in LA causing his wife, Phaedra Parks, and the other housewives to turn their backs on Moore. “I apologize to you. It was a lie,” Nida said to Moore on last night’s episode in an attempt to clear his conscience. “I know where I’m going and I need my slate to be clear.” Moore, however, said she needed an apology from someone else. “I won’t be vindicated until Phaedra apologizes,” she told Nida. Sanaa Lathan is shooting down rumors that she’s dating Tyrese Gibson. Last month, Hollywood was speculating that the two were an item after they were seen leaving the Cheesecake Factory together, but Lathan is finally setting the record straight. “We’re friends. We were having dinner together and you know how they do,” she said to Hip Hollywood. “I mean, I love that people want something to happen to me. That’s great. I mean, you know, bring it on!” [Hip Hollywood]

Alexandra Shipp says she’s been feeling “bullied” by the backlash over the new Aaliyah biopic. The 23-year-old star of the film says she’s been under a social media firestorm for taking the role in the controversial film. “I’ve pretty much stopped 10% of my tweeting right now,” she said. “In the beginning, I was like ‘delete and block, delete and block’ but you can’t delete and block everything. Once the movie is out and the dust has settled, I’ll be able to do my own funny tweets again.” Watch her full interview with The Grio below.
