Here’s what we’re talking about over our fruit and nut bars:
After stirring up the social media pot with her latest comments on race, Raven-Symone is trying clarify her statements. While visiting Oprah’s Where Are They Now, the former child star spoke out on the difficulty of labels. “I’m tired of being labeled,” she said. “I’m an American. I’m not an African-American. I’m an American.” With that being said, Symone released another statement making it clear that she’s still Black. “I never said I wasn’t Black,” she told The Grio. “I want to make that very clear. I said, I am not African-American. I never expected my personal beliefs and comments to spark such emotion in people. I think it is only positive when we can openly discuss race and being labeled in America.” [TheGrio]
Erotica author Zane has recently filed for bankruptcy and owes the IRS $540,000 in back taxes. The film adaptation of her novel, Addicted, is set to release October 10. [TheGrio]
Iyanla Vanzant’s Iyanla: Fix My Life always tries to tackle major situations. After interviewing Jay Williams, a man with children by 17 different women, Vanzant opened up the conversation to include five more men. Vanzant brought the six men (including Williams)—who have fathered 87 children from 50 different women—together to talk about what it truly means to be a responsible father. [TheGrio]
Nicki Minaj’s bootylicious single, “Anaconda,” has gone platinum. Minaj shared the news on Instagram with a very happy post. “Just released on UK iTunes and is now certified #Platinum in America #Anaconda.” Way to go, girl. [TheSource]
How To Get Away With Murder‘s star Viola Davis took some time to meet up with Elmo on Sesame Street. While there, she gave him a little lesson in Spanish by teaching him a new word: Fiesta. To help him learn the word, Davis threw a little ‘fiesta’ of her own. Check out the video and let us know what you think:
