Coffee Talk: Nick Cannon to Release Book of Children’s Poems

Here’s what we’re talking about over our tea:

Nick Cannon is working on a new project that addresses a much younger audience. The America’s Got Talent host has been keeping a journal for much of his life, chronicling poems and notes, which is set to be released under Scholastic. Titled Neon Aliens Ate My Homework and Other Poems, the children’s book will feature black-and-white illustrations from multiple different street artists. The combination of the poetry and drawings is set to reflect Cannon’s interest in putting poetry and hip-hop together. This book—full of Cannon’s writings from the age of 8—is set to be released in March. And if you’re looking for a little Cannon to read before March, he will also be releasing another children’s book in October titled, Roc and Roe’s Twelve Days of Christmas, which is inspired by his twins, Moroccan and Monroe. According to a press release, Kevin Hart is bringing the second annual HartBeat Weekend back. Starting in Las Vegas, Hart’s production will then move on to London and then Atlantic City. Those involved in the HartBeat Weekend will get to enjoy performances by Kendrick Lamar, Ne-Yo, August Alsina, Solange Knowles and a few surprise comedic acts. The tour kicks off September 5-6, at The Cosmopolitan in Vegas.

After being dropped from the St. Louis Rams, Michael Sam may have found a new squad to play with. Sam was seen walking into the Dallas Cowboys headquarters, where he was signed onto their 10-man practice squad. It has been rumored that Sam will be joining the Cowboys, which is the NFL’s highest-profile franchise. [USAToday]

With all of the negative attention that CeeLo Green has acquired over the past few days, TBS has canceled his unscripted series, The Good Life after just one season. [Billboard]

The Broadway musical The Lion King will give its 7,000th performance tonight. The Tony Award-winning Disney-movie-turned-musical will be one of only three shows in Broadway history to reach this milestone. Over the years, the show has been translated into eight languages and has played in 18 countries. Congrats to the cast!  [TheaterMania]
