Kenya Moore released a statement today regarding the altercation between her and Porsha Williams on last night’s Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion. In the statement, Moore says “authorities will decide [Porsha’s] fate, not me.” She went on to say that despite her professional self-defense training, “my intellect and brain are my most powerful weapons-not my fists.” Moore closed the release stating that her position as the second Black woman to be crowned Miss USA and the influence that she has on young women is what prevents her from fighting, prompting readers to “#stoptheviolence.”
Nas is teaming up with Google and Microsoft to offer tech scholarships for students. In an effort to diversify the tech industry, the Opportunity Fund offers scholarships to women, veterans, African-Americans and Latinos. Each donor takes on a specific demographic; Nas’s Queensbridge Venture Partners will target African-American and Latino students. [HipHopWired]
Arizona mother Shanesha Taylor will face felony child abuse charges for leaving her children in a car while she went on a job interview. Despite widespread support of Taylor and the circumstances of the case, Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery is unmoved. He told the Arizona Republic, “So I don’t know whether any of the individuals in their pajamas who logged on to the site and put their names on there really had a clue of all the circumstances involved in this particular case.” [AZCentral]
Anita Baker is suing the decorating company that filed a lawsuit against her for $15,351. Baker’s lawyer says that Ray A. Smith Painting and Decorating “intended to put her in as embarrassing a light as possible.” He said she had no idea that the lawsuit existed when the company put out a warrant for her arrest.
