With such heavy headlines, see why we’re cutting back on the sugar this morning:
- CNN has an amazing cover story on celebrities who have taken money from controversial Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. The story warns that celebrities should be more involved in the business side of organizing shows overseas. “We have to track and do the research that the government that’s in place is legitimate. We talk to the embassy and check out political contacts to make sure our government doesn’t have information that the country is being run by a dictator,” says Matthew ‘Mateo’ Rajkumar, Chief Executive Officer of the American Talent Agency. This is a lesson for Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Usher and Nelly Furtado. Rapper 50 Cent recently announced that he will donate his Gaddafi money to UNICEF. [CNN]
- This fall, HBO is set to air a Harry Belafonte documentary called “Sing Your Song.” The film will highlight his role in the Civil Rights movement and participation in South Africa’s fight against apartheid. [BV]
