John Legend Signs on To Produce ‘Underground’

Everyone’s favorite crooner is bringing his talents to WGN. John Legend has signed on to both executive produce and handle the score for the upcoming series Underground, a drama that follows a group of slaves as they attempt to escape to freedom. “This series has a unique opportunity to speak to the passion and courage of those who risked it all as they raced to freedom,” Legend said in a statement. Newly released emails reveal that Rihanna tried to perform a free concert in Baltimore the week after Freddie Gray died, but was barred by then-police commissioner Anthony Batts. According to the emails, Rihanna wanted to put on a free show and march with the protestors, but police officers falsely claimed that they were unable to obtain the proper permits.
