“I was discovered by a scout in Jamaica. I was with different modeling agencies until I landed at IMG. I now am with Q Models and CESD in New York. I did campaigns for so many brands and was shot by famous photographers like Steven Miesel, Walter Chin and Ellen von Unwerth.”

“My modeling career was a lovely period in my life that lasted over a decade. It was a wonderful career both here and in Europe! It’s good when you can enter the modeling industry and last for more than a season or two.”

“I’ve evolved from modeling. I published a book on photography and did a bit of fashion photography. I’ve probably worked every kind of job in fashion for a while, and now I’m doing design.”

“I’ve been sketching since I was in high school and I’m now finally launching a line. Life takes you through this journey and so I embrace this moment now and hope it goes on for a long time.”

“Being a designer now can be very challenging. I feel like the industry has changed so much over the last fifteen years! Production and distribution of your products feels a bit more difficult.”

“I think my woman falls between the ages of 33 to 65 and shes a woman who is sure of herself, well traveled and confident . She doesn’t need to sell her skin to feel sexy. She’s sure of herself and a free woman!”

11
Classic Beauty

“As a designer, I’m attracted to classic tailoring. I’m not trying to do menswear for women. But, I am attracted to tailoring and uniform and clean line for structures. The world is so full of chaos that if you can structure your clothes – it’s a beautiful balance.”

12
Classic Beauty

“I think its okay to express your self through, but at the end of the day whatever you feel inside comes out anyway, even though the clothing acts as a vessel and uplifts you and makes you feel you can wear something to project how you feel.”

“As a designer, I wanted to create something that is non-seasonal and transitional pieces pieces that will stand the test of time. I want the person who invests in my collection to come back ten years from now and find that my pieces are still not out of style.”

“I’ve always been very conservative in my sense of style. Mommyhood has amplified me being so reserved, and my son has grown up to be that way too.”

“To stay fit, I walk a lot and do dancing. I’m not rigorous in any kind of exercise, but I do night walks in Central Park and I used to bike a lot. Every five or six months, I go see my trainer for a rigorous workout routine. I also cook almost everyday. I love my veggies!”

“Being a model helped me discover my sense of style since I’ve worked with so many designers over the years.”

“I feel being a designer of color has been helpful to me in some ways because there aren’t enough of us. I never want to see my color as a stumbling block. I want to see myself accomplish things just because I am.”

18
Classic Beauty

“If you feel good about yourself and how you look, then you will feel good in whatever you are wearing.”

“I’m my own ad. I wear the pieces well. I feel comfortable in them so almost daily, if I’m not in t-shirt and jeans, I’m in something that is mine. I’m my best advertisement right now, and I have to take advantage of it.”

“I’m not usually top to bottom over dressed and accessorized. I don’t do too much on a daily basis.”

Classic Beauty

“I use really good imported fabrics which makes my pieces feel special. That’s important because I believe everything should be well made. When my customer invests in a piece, she knows it will be for the long term. “

22

“My pieces are traditional, basic and simple – but very classic. If you are the kind of woman who dresses things up, it’s perfect for you because you can make it look how you want it to look.”

“When I started, I wanted to be a good vessel, which inspired the name of the collection. To make this real, I’ve partnered with a boys home back in Jamaica. I went back and met directors there and they have so many basic needs. It was clear to me that this is how the vessel – my clothing line – can give back.”
