The mayor of Los Alamitos, California, is busy taking his foot out of his mouth. Apparently, he sent an e-mail to a Black city volunteer depicting the White House lawn strewn with watermelons with a caption that read, “No Easter egg hunt this year,” according to the Associated Press. Mayor Dean Grose confirmed that he had sent the e-mail from his personal account to Keyanus Price who sits with him on the community youth board but wasn’t at all aware that the watermelon reference would be offensive to African-Americans. He has since called and written a letter of apology to her.—WLW
