As of today, anyone shopping in the state of California will have to factor in a new “temporary” sales tax, according to the SFGate.com. The sales tax will increase by one percent and will expire on July 1, 2011, or July 1, 2012, depending on whether voters approve it as a constitutional amendment on May 19. The increase, which raises California’s sales tax up to 8.25 percent and as far as 10.25 percent in some areas, is designed to help out state revenue and fund public services like transit. It’s got Californians turning to the Internet where they can skirt the new sales tax for their purchases.—WLW
