Brandi Williams of the R&B trio Blaque will marry the love of her life on May 23 in Atlanta. The petite chanteuse gives us a peek at her designer’s wedding and bridesmaid sketches. “I wanted to share as much as I could with you without the big reveal” says the 26-year-old. “Please keep in mind that these sketches are no where near the final product, but I appreciate my designer’s vision and wanted to hear all the [ESSENCE.com readers’] thoughts.”
Williams met her hubby-to-be, Jayson Harris, 30, a private club owner and real estate investor from Detroit, in 2006 through her stepfather. “I’m looking forward to married life,” she says.
A 17th century-inspired strapless, jewel-encrusted top and bottom with pleated mâche. “I do like that it’s a nontraditional and short cupcake dress, but I plan to go more tailored, longer and fitted for me and my bridesmaids; but if we’re going for a more trendy dress, this would work.”
This asymetric one-shoulder mermaid dress with corset bodice and layered ruffled bottom could also be the choice. “First Lady Michelle Obama definitely made the one-shoulder dresses hotter,” says Williams. “I love the streamlining of it, but simplicity is always best when it comes to traditional weddings.”
This strapless form-fitting bridesmaids dress boasts shimmering accents. “Again, the subtle sexiness of this dress is closer to what I want to capture for my wedding and personal style,” says Williams. “Many people think, because of how edgy Blaque’s style is, that my personal style is the same, but I’m more classic with a sexy modern twist.”
A strapless, three-tiered pleated dress with lace cross chains adds edge to any bridesmaids. "This dress is inspired by “Moulin Rouge,” says Marve, a design student at Bauder College in Atlanta. “It is extremely bold.”
“I can appreciate the fun and flirty designs, but less is always more for me,” admits Williams.
These 17th century-inspired bridesmaids dresses are flirty. Made of mâche fabric, the lightweight, tank-strapped, two-tiered, knee-length dress with lining is daringly whimsical. “I do like the fact that it’s nontraditional and short cupcake dress, but, again, my style is a little more traditional, longer and fitted,” says Williams.

Shamari, Natina and Brandi make up the R&B trio Blaque (an acronym for Believe, Life, Achieving, Quest, Unity and Everything). The group was discovered by the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. The ladies will be returning to music and making their television debut with a new album and a reality show.
