African-Americans in South Carolina are making huge strides in regards to voter registration. According to the Associated Press, African-Americans are registered to vote at nearly twice the rate of Whites ahead of last weekend’s deadline. The AP reports that registration among Black voters rose 15 percent from the start of the year through October 1. Also, the state recorded more than 16,000 new registered voters between October 1 and October 4. Impressively, the greatest percentage gain was among Black men between the ages of 18 and 24.
