'Black Marriage Negotiations' Video Goes Viral

A new animated video on relationships between Black men and women has quickly gone viral. The two-minute short features an educated Black woman and man negotiating the terms of their relationships. In their conversation, we hear the usual grunts we hear of Black relationships; “Where are all the good Black men? I just can’t find one,” says the female character. “What am I, invisible or something?” retorts the Black man… From then on the video comes off like the ultimate battle of the sexes. She has outlandish expectations (he must be 6’5″, earn six figures and be a “thug who can kick it in the boardroom”), and he seems clueless to the point of condescending. While there are plenty of women out there with unrealistic expectations, the aim of this anonymous filmmaker seems to be to make this a problem unique to Black women. We don’t agree.
