Kimora and Djimon were first spotted out together in 2007 after she split from her former husband Russell Simmons. Kimora says she found the West African native “deeply compelling and utterly sweet.”
Contrary to popular belief, Djimon says Kimora is the least high-maintenance woman he’s ever been with.
On their first date with friends, Kimora told Harpers Bazaar she immediately asked Djimon, “Are you dating?’ ‘You married?’ ’You want kids?” Years later it’s clear he answered, “yes.”
Djimon was there to support Kimora at her Kimora Lee Simmons & KLS Collection Spring 2008 fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City.
The two former models looked stunning at the Madonna + Gucci Present A Night to Benefit Raising Malawi at the United Nations in 2007.
So what were Djimon’s first impressions of Kimora? “She’s a very beautiful lady, very capable and intelligent and smart with great family values.” Aw, we love.
Djimon says he loves Kimora’s strong personality and ambition. “I wanted to find a wonderful person to be with, which is the most challenging thing in our business,” he told Harpers Bazaar.

Kimora and Djimon’s love blossomed fast, and it was clear from the beginning that it was the real thing.
Djimon met Kimora’s daughters Aoki and Ming Lee a few months after they began dating. She said, “I tell them, ’Mommy loves you, Daddy loves you, Djimon loves you. You never lost a dad. That would be disrespectful. If anything, you gained a father figure.”
Kimora says Djimon keeps her grounded. “He’s a reality check for me, and I’m a fabulosity check for him,” says the mom of three.

Djimon says he takes off his hat to how Kimora and her ex-husband, Russell Simmons raised their daughters. “It’s extremely commendable what they do with the kids,” he said in an interview.
Kimora says Djimon is a “a good example of a very strong, honorable man.”
By 2008, Kimora and Djimon were expecting their first child together. Their son Kenzo was born on May 30, 2009.
Kimora says she knows love when she sees “[Djimon] taking care of our son or with my daughters and see what a great parent he is to all three of our kids.”
