This year’s Black Girls Rock! Awards was an exciting and empowering night to remember!
The most fabulous stars, including Jill Scott, Taraji P. Henson, Mary Mary, Erykah Badu, and Mary J. Blige, gathered to salute the awe-inspiring achievements of Black women.
For BGR! founder DJ Beverly Bond, hosting this annual event is her way of affirming our young Black girls and showing them positive role models.
“The awards show put a spotlight on our black female heroes,” Bond said in an interview with The Grio. “A lot of our women throughout time have not been recognized for the contributions that they have made to our culture. We needed to find a way to empower our women.”
