Beverly Johnson is set to appear in HBO’s new documentary series, About Face: Supermodels Then and Now. Johnson is among 16 other seasoned supermodels, including Christie Brinkley, Jerry Hall and Isabella Rossellini, who will detail their lives as top models.

The series gives a candid look into the fashion world. “You don’t eat. Really, seriously you starve,” Johnson told Access Hollywood at the show’s premiere in New York City. “That was part of the occupational hazard of modeling and so it’s really sad to see regular people doing the same thing to remain thin and particularly, the young girls.”

Johnson, who’s career has spanned over three decades, is best known as the first African-American model to appear on the cover of American Vogue in 1974. She currently owns a hair care and extensions line and has a reality show, Beverly’s Full House, on the OWN network.

Check out a preview of About Face below. It debuts on HBO on July 30 at 9 p.m.
