Misty Copeland has been honored for her amazing achievements at New York City’s City Hall.
According to The Grio, the star who was recently named principal dancer for the American Ballet Theatre was recognized by speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and Councilwoman Inez Barton.
“Her hard work to hone her talents has earned her this distinction,” said Barron.
At the event, the esteemed ballerina was met with a warm applause from members of the city council. She went on to sign three pairs of ballet slippers before receiving a proclamation certificate from Mark-Viverito and Barton.
Copeland, who recently became the first African-American ballerina to hold the principal dancer position says she’s still in awe at her accomplishment:
“It makes me so proud, it still doesn’t feel real,” the ballerina shared.
