Question #1

Whether you approve or disapprove of Beyonce’s latest haircut, the Queen Bey took the plunge and changed her look. But before you follow suit, we asked Matrix celebrity stylist George Papanikolas to offer his advice on what you should be asking your hairstylist before sitting in the chair. Take a look and let us know what questions you like to ask.

—

Do you think this look will actually work for me? Do I have the right face shape, hairline, texture?

Just because the look is popular doesn’t mean it’s great for you. Really examine your bone structure and determine if the look will work for you.

Question #2

Can you show me where on my forehead the bangs will hit? Are there bang pieces available that can be clipped in to experiment?

If you’re unsure how the look will look, try adding a few pieces in the front to see where your actual strands will hang.

Question #3

What’s the growing out process going to be like?

If you are cutting your natural hair, then this is a big consideration. If you’re expecting your hair to grow back in a month, bangs may not be the style for you.

Question #4

Are there certain hair products I will need to use to achieve (and maintain) the look?

Before you leave the salon make sure you know how to re-create the look at home.

Question #5

How often will I need to get trims to maintain the look? And, can I do it myself?

Before cutting your bangs, it’s important to know how often you’ll have to return to the salon. Understanding your expectations in the beginning will save you time and energy in the long run.
