In an effort to continue to make school affordable for students from the area, Arizona State University announced that they will expand their financial aid program to include the President Barack Obama Scholars program, according to the school’s Web site. The program is an effort to allow students access to higher education, honor President Obama and be a way for young Americans to become globally competitive.
Students whose families earn less than $60,000 are eligible, and their tuition, books, and room and board will be covered. Students will be expected to find a job on campus as part of their package. The Obama Scholars Program will include 1,600 freshmen in the fall who will also be paired up with mentors. The program will officially be named when the President gives the commencement speech on May 13.—WLW
